Last night, the San Leon Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched for mutual aid to Texas City Fire Department to assist with an unattended trash fire. A plant operator from a nearby business reported the fire after embers were seen blowing through the air in the strong winds. Given the conditions, there was a real risk of the fire spreading.

Fortunately, our crews, along with the Texas City Fire Department, were able to respond quickly, contain the fire, and prevent further danger. This is an important reminder—never leave a fire unattended, especially in windy conditions! A small fire can quickly become a major emergency.

We appreciate the vigilance of those who report potential fire hazards and the teamwork between departments to keep our communities safe.
