San Leon VFD responded to a reported RV or small structure fire in the 400 block of 27 Street. Upon arrival, we found a chicken coop fully involved in flames. Thanks to a quick response, we could extinguish the fire before it spread to nearby structures.

After investigation, we discovered that a heater being used to keep the coop warm was likely too close to hay, igniting the fire. This serves as an important reminder:

⚠️ Heating Safety Tips:
✅ Keep all heaters at least 3 feet away from anything flammable (hay, wood, bedding, furniture, etc.).
✅ Use certified heaters designed for enclosed spaces and follow the manufacturer’s guidelines.
✅ Never leave heaters unattended.
✅ Regularly inspect cords, propane connections, and heating elements for damage.
✅ Ensure proper ventilation and have a fire extinguisher nearby.

This is a perfect example of how a small fire can quickly become a big problem, threatening homes, property, and lives. Our ability to respond quickly and protect the community depends on proper funding—because when seconds count, we need the resources to act fast. Stay safe, San Leon! 🚒🔥
