By Engineer JEFF PITTMAN
March 9, 2025

San Leon Fire responded to a motor vehicle accident involving a golf cart. Upon arrival, they found a passenger trapped beneath the overturned cart. Our team acted swiftly, extricating the individual, who was then promptly transported by medics for medical care. We wish them a speedy recovery.

This incident underscores the importance of golf cart safety, especially when operating on public roads and within communities. Please keep the following safety tips in mind:

Golf Cart Safety Tips:
• Ensure Street Legality: Before operating a golf cart on public roads, verify that it meets local regulations for street-legal vehicles. This typically includes features like headlights, taillights, turn signals, mirrors, and seat belts.
• Obey Traffic Laws: Golf carts are subject to the same traffic laws as other vehicles. Always adhere to speed limits, stop signs, and traffic signals.
• Use Seat Belts: If your golf cart is equipped with seat belts, ensure all passengers use them.
• Stay Visible: Use headlights and taillights during low-light conditions to increase visibility to other drivers and pedestrians.
• Avoid Distractions: Stay attentive and avoid using mobile devices or engaging in activities that divert your attention while driving.
• Perform Regular Maintenance: Regularly inspect your golf cart’s brakes, steering, tires, and lights to ensure it’s in safe working condition.

By following these guidelines, we can all contribute to a safer environment for golf cart users and our community.

Stay safe, San Leon!!
