| San Leon Fire responded to a report of a porch fire.
San Leon Engine 1 arrived at the scene and found a citizen using a garden hose to help put out the fire. The man had been wade fishing near Mooner Beach when he noticed flames coming from the property. He immediately got out of the water, went to investigate, found a water hose, and began trying to control the fire before firefighters arrived.
The residence was being used as an Airbnb, and the occupants had reportedly left about an hour earlier. Information at the scene indicated that trash had been taken outside and left near the deck, with a discarded cigarette believed to have started the fire.
Because of the citizen’s alertness and quick action, the fire was kept from becoming significantly worse before San Leon Volunteer Fire Department arrived.
This incident demonstrates how community awareness can make a difference. Acting quickly after noticing the problem helped protect the property from what could have become a much larger structure fire.
San Leon Volunteer Fire Department thanks the citizen for his actions and his commitment to helping the community. |
