| Much of the important work our firefighters do happens out of public view. What the community doesn’t see is just as vital as what is visible on the fireground.
Wearing a Scott air pack involves much more than simply putting it on and heading into a fire. When a firefighter enters a smoke-filled, hazardous environment, the air pack becomes a crucial piece of their lifeline.
To use it effectively, our members must do more than know how to operate it. They need a deep understanding of how it functions, familiarity with every component, and the ability to inspect it thoroughly. Recognizing issues before they become failures is essential. They must also know how to perform routine maintenance, troubleshoot problems, and respond when something is not working correctly.
In emergency situations, equipment failure can turn into a life-or-death matter within seconds.
Today, six of our members completed a six-hour Scott Level 1 Technician class. This training increases our department’s knowledge and ability to properly inspect, maintain, troubleshoot, and care for one of the most important pieces of protective equipment our firefighters rely on.

Most people will never see the hours invested in this type of preparation. It won’t be reported on the evening news. There will be no sirens, smoke, or flames. But the results are evident when emergencies occur and our firefighters must perform at their best.
These men and women are not training for a paycheck. They are sacrificing evenings, weekends, and personal time because this community deserves firefighters who are ready, knowledgeable, and equipped to respond safely.
Anyone can put on an air pack. Trusting your life to it requires a different level of training and commitment.
To our six members who spent time advancing their education, thank you. To Heat Safety, thank you for dedicating your time and helping us raise our standards. And to the families of our firefighters, thank you for supporting their commitment to serve and train.
The public often sees us only when something goes wrong. Behind the scenes, we invest countless hours to ensure we are ready when it matters most.
