Ongoing training can be crucial in emergency situations.
Recently, new members of the department completed Basic Life Support (BLS), CPR training, and an Emergency Medical Responder course. Last night, the San Leon Volunteer Fire Department responded to a report of an overdose and found a patient with no pulse who was not breathing.
Members of the department immediately began performing high-quality CPR. Within about five minutes, the patient’s pulse was restored, offering the individual another chance at life.
Incidents like this highlight the important role that trained volunteers serve in the community. Local residents rely on these volunteers, and when the call for help comes in, their presence can make all the difference.
