A DAY THE WORLD WILL NEVER FORGET

By Engineer JEFF PITTMAN
September 12, 2026

On September 11, 2001, thousands of people fled unimaginable danger while 343 FDNY firefighters, along with police officers, paramedics, and other first responders, answered the call and ran toward it.
That day changed our nation forever.
Today, we honor every innocent life lost, every hero who made the ultimate sacrifice, and every survivor who continues to carry the lasting impact of that day.
In remembrance, the San Leon Fire Department has lowered its flags to half-staff. For those who may not know, San Leon Engine 2 is stationed outside the firehouse. This engine was present at the World Trade Center site in New York on September 11, 2001. It was donated to our department following Hurricane Ike, when our station was destroyed.
Today, Engine 2 remains a tangible part of history. It serves as a reserve apparatus and continues to play an important role in training our new members.
May God bless the families, friends, and fellow first responders who continue to carry the memory of that day.
We remember. We honor. We will never forget
